According to a Sixers official, Joel Embiid was ruled out halfway Monday night due to a right knee injury. Embiid sustained a left knee bone bruise on March 12 in DC, putting him out for ten games. During that time, the Sixers went 7-3.
In the first quarter, Joel Embiid hobbling and gripping his lower right back region, walked to the locker room. He entered the game with a series average of 30 points on 67 percent shooting.
It’s a shame for Philadelphia since Embiid dominated the first quarter, scoring eight points, grabbing six boards, and dishing out two assists. He also assisted in drawing two fouls on Wizards centers Daniel Gafford and Alex Len, in the opening five minutes of the contest.
The MVP frontrunner stayed in the game for much of the first quarter, save for the last 36.5 seconds, before heading to the dressing room at Capital One Arena. In the second quarter, Dwight Howard and Mike Scott subbed for Embiid, with Scott entering the second half at the center.
His absence aided the Wizards’ comeback, as Lopez scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. The 76ers had established an 11-point lead, but following Embiid’s tumble, the game’s complexion changed abruptly.
Embiid annihilated the Wizards in the first three games of the first-round series, helping Philadelphia to a 3–0 lead. In-Game 3 on May 29, he had 36 points and eight rebounds while shooting 14-18 from the field in a 132-103 win. Embiid’s scorching start to the playoffs is a continuation of his stellar regular-season performance, in which he scored a career-high 28.5 points per game.
