Sonic Speed Simulator is a new Sonic the Hedgehog game that is currently accessible on Roblox.

The official Sega-backed initiative allows you to play as Sonic and race across numerous environments versus friends. Over the next few weeks, regular weekly updates will bring more to the game.

It’s also the first time a well-known AAA gaming character has appeared in Roblox.

Sega of America has teamed up with Roblox developer Gamefam to release a licensed Sonic the Hedgehog game on the Roblox platform. On April 14, players will be able to dash their way through Sonic Speed Simulator on Roblox for free.

Sonic Speed Simulator is an open-world online multiplayer game in which you may play as your Roblox character or Sonic and his buddies. In this “speed simulator,” users will level up their character’s speed by completing as many in-game steps as possible and collecting unique objects such as Chaos Orbs. The game is available for free through the Roblox app, which is available for Android, iOS, Mac, Windows PC, and Xbox One. The game will be released shortly after the debut of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film in theaters.

The game will be released in four zones, including the checkered terrain of the Green Hill Zone. A fifth zone, as well as additional features such as monsters, will be included in a later release. Roblox games are well-known for their avatars that resemble Lego Minifigures. Sonic Speed Simulator, on the other hand, allows users to obtain skins that let them play as true-to-franchise 3D versions of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The game also includes one-of-a-kind Sonic-themed goods for your avatar, such as Chao pets that you may adopt in-game.

The makers of Sonic Speed Simulator noted that one of the most difficult aspects of bringing the game to life was reconciling the standards and technological limits of a platform like Roblox with developing a game based on a AAA property. Sega, according to Gamefam CEO Joe Ferencz, helped boost the production value of Sonic Speed Simulator so that it looked and felt like a Sonic game.

“This game feels like Sonic when you get the speed,” Ferencz stated in an interview. “Our producers, designers, and animators know how to do that, but we needed Sega’s expert Sonic advice on it.” Previously, Gamefam collaborated with businesses like Mattel and Ubisoft to build Roblox experiences. Hot Wheels Open World, an open-world Hot Wheels driving game, was launched in 2020 by the firm.

Ferencz thinks Sonic fans would give Sonic Speed Simulator a try despite the fact that the game is only available on Roblox. “I think people have a lot of misconceptions about what Roblox is and isn’t,” he explained. “If people are Sonic fans, we want them to come in and try this game.” Even if they have never played Roblox.”

According to the official description, “Sonic Speed Simulator is the fastest game in Roblox and features everyone’s favorite speedster, Sonic the Hedgehog,” “In the game, players will be able to level up and gain speed by running through multiple unique worlds while racing against friends to earn rewards, including pets that can increase stats and Sonic character skins.”

If you like your Sonic games to be developed by Sega, Sonic Frontiers is on the way. This will contain the series’ “first-ever open zone” to explore and will be released in late 2022 for PC and consoles.
