European Championships Croatia vs Spain. There’s an adage that great teams grow into the competition, and Croatia hopes that holds as it travels to Copenhagen. Croatia’s team had a rough start in the group stages against England, but they have since recovered. However, Croatia has been ousted from all three previous EURO knockout games, so history is on their side.
Spain has advanced to the quarter-finals! Croatia fought hard to come back from a 3-1 deficit to force extra time, but Spain was promoted to La Roja’s last eight with goals from Morata and Oyarzabal in the last 30 minutes. In the Quarterfinals, Spain will face Switzerland.
Pau Torres’ long pass to Ferran was arguably right out of an injury break for Gaya, making it one of the more contentious aspects of Tuesday night’s encounter. Ferran Torres handled the ball brilliantly, and Guardiol couldn’t get to him in time, allowing him to send the ball past Livakovic in a spectacular finish.
Spain was leading 3-1 on their coast in the 76th minute, but Croatia never gave up and scored two late goals to take the game into overtime. What a perfect fit! What a competition! Another 30 minutes are on the clock.
Full Time: 3-3
10 minutes into Extra Time:
Alvaro Morata, who has been heavily criticized in Spain for his recent play, silenced his haters with a superb goal, controlling the ball out of the area before hitting a left-footed shot over Livakovic, and well handled the Olmo cross. Spain leads Croatia 4-3 once more in this incredible game.
13 Minutes into Extra time:
From the right, Olmo crossed the ball to Mikel Oyarzabal. Mikel kept possession of the ball and blasted a shot into the 6-yard box. Croatia was unable to recover from this. Croatia 5-3 Spain
