Donald Trump turned 75 on Monday, and he celebrated his first birthday since leaving the White House at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, in the same way, he did last year.

He also spent a lot of time this year bashing political opponents, like he did last year. Some of his family members joined him to celebrate, including son Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, as well as football star Herschel Walker and others.

But there’s a lot that’s different. Since losing the White House, Trump has faced rising legal difficulties, and the Republican Party, which rallied around him this time last year for his re-election quest, has seen a vociferous minority of its legislators defect in the aftermath of Trump’s falsehoods about his defeat.

On Monday, he kept a quiet profile, though a source told PEOPLE that he was planning to play golf and that “the family will spend Donald’s birthday together like they typically do.” Other than Don Jr., who shared an INSTAGRAM video of a birthday sing-along at Bedminster on Monday, it was unclear who else was with him.

It was also unknown if former First Lady Melania Trump and the couple’s teenage son, Barron, were at Bedminster, where the former president had gone for the summer from Florida. Ivana Trump, the mother of Donald Trump’s three eldest children, tells PEOPLE that her ex-husband “hates his birthdays.” “So I called him and wished him a happy birthday, telling him not to worry about his age. His and mine [are] unlisted, and age is simply a number.'”

Trump’s middle son, Eric Trump, shared a birthday tribute on INSTAGRAM, and Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, also uploaded an INSTAGRAM photo of herself, Eric, and their two young children with the former president. She captioned the photo, “Happy birthday, Grandpa!!!!” According to sources, the former president has spent the majority of his days since leaving the White House golfing and eating lunch at his clubs, meeting with Republican leaders and a small group of advisers, and pushing bogus claims about his 2020 election defeat.
