The English side has chased the glory for a long time now since they first tasted it in 1966. They have been denied the glory on several occasions since. They secured the fourth position twice in 1990 and 2014. They have now chanted bring it home for half a century. Harry Kane is given the responsibility to make sure that it comes home this time around. The Tottenham striker is high on confidence as he has one of strongest rosters the Three Lions ever had. There are a few problems to discuss but overall England has a potent squad on their hands this time around. They have pretty much all the bases covered. In this article, we will discuss and analyze England’s squad.
Goalkeepers
Out of the 26, Gareth Southgate will surely go with three goalkeepers. Pickford, Pope, and Henderson are expected to be cut. Pickford is for sure their number-one choice. He has proved his mettle on the highest and most important levels. He made some saves In Euro 2020 that helped the English side reach the Final in the competition. His athletic and acrobatic display in the 2018 World Cup was something to reckon with. England’s man between the poles is arguably among the top five Goalkeepers that will play in the competition.
Defense
The defense will include Walker, Fikayo Tomori, Stones, Dier, and Maguire as the leading options for the starting 11 of the English side. Maguire is under serious criticism but Southgate is keen on keeping him. This move may probably be inspired by the moments like him scoring a header against Sweden and winning the game for the English side. The full-backs are one of the most competitive spots. Reece James, Trent, and Tripper will compete for the spot. Citing England’s playing style they can accommodate only one. Reece James is the speculated first choice for Southgate. Trent though offers a variety of attacking options and can be lethal with cross-field passes but he has been very low on the defensive form. Trippier though is a corner and free-kick specialist but has not been preferred by Southgate of late. Ben and Shaw will compete for the left back. Saka being a versatile player can also play in the position
Midfield
Jude Bellingham, Rice, Mount, Maddison, and Henderson will patrol the midfield for England. They have an X factor in the shape of Bellingham. Henderson will direct the traffic and will decide what pace the team plays with. Mount can be an offensive option when the team has to counterattack. Kalvin Phillips might also make the list as he has been doing good for the English side. The midfield is not something that England might consider their strength. Although it is a decent group of seasoned footballers nevertheless.
Attack
Sterling, Foden, Grealish, Rashforrd, Saka, Kane, Tammy, and Toney are all eager to cut. Sancho will be missing the chance to feature in the English roster. He has completely lost form after joining the Red Devils. Foden will be the one player to look forward to. He can be the make-or-break player for England. A lot rests on his young shoulders. Sterling and Kane are always backed by English fans. Rashford and Saka will try their level best to make up for the missed penalties in the Final Euros.
