Kanye West and his new girlfriend Irina Shayk are causing a stir in the fashion industry. Just three months after, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce, whom he was married to for six years. Sources revealed on Wednesday that the rapper-turned-designer, 44, and Irina Shayk, the Russian supermodel, 35, were dating – and though the news of their fledgling romance may surprise some, the pair met in the fashion world a decade ago.
In 2010, an up-and-coming Shayk appeared in West’s music video for “Power” and received a shoutout in his song “Christian Dior Denim Flow.” She was soon cast in his Fall 2012 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week. At that time, West designing under his Kanye West label and hadn’t debuted his ‘Yeezy’ collection, which he would later do in 2015.
Shayk walked the runway wearing a tight velvet devoré dress, stiletto gladiator-style boots, and an enormous black leather coat, as well as dramatic, smokey eye makeup. Kim Kardashian, who had just started dating the rapper at the time but would become West’s wife and mother of his children, was seated in the first row at the same concert, dressed out in his designs. Shayk was overjoyed and ecstatic when she received the opportunity to appear on West’s show.

Shayk continued to support West’s creative pursuits in the years that followed, going out in many of his apparel and footwear creations as she rose to street-style celebrity. In April, she paid tribute to the late DMX by wearing a $200 Yeezy x Balenciaga tribute shirt, which helped collect $1 million for the rapper’s family. Both Shayk and West are also good friends with designer Riccardo Tisci, who spent 12 years as Givenchy’s creative director until taking over at Burberry in 2018.
Tisci was eventually introduced to Kardashian by the artist. The Givenchy creative director designed multiple ensembles for the shapewear and cosmetics tycoon, including the famed floral gown and gloves worn to her first Met Gala with West in 2013.
West and Shayk both share children with their ex-spouses. Shayk shares a four-year-old daughter Lea De Seine with her ex Bradley Cooper, and West shares her four children North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, one with Kardashian.
