According to rumors, Cristiano Ronaldo might quit Manchester United this summer and return to Real Madrid in a spectacular fashion.
Ronaldo has been the club’s leading scorer this season and is widely considered the Red Devils’ savior.
Ronaldo has already been linked with a transfer away from Manchester United, owing to the impending arrival of Erik ten Hag.
United might be willing to keep Ronaldo since incoming manager Ten Hag is thought to want to work with the superstar.
According to Steve Bates, a journalist, “Cristiano Ronaldo might make a spectacular comeback to Real Madrid this summer, with the Spanish club growing increasingly interested in a reunion. Influential Real Madrid figures want him back because they know he’ll deliver guaranteed goals in La Liga.”
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is thought to be interested in bringing Ronaldo to a team that plays in the UEFA Champions League this summer.
Ronaldo has been linked with Bayern Munich and Barcelona ahead of the transfer season.
And, despite signing a two-year contract extension when he returned from Italy, the landscape at Old Trafford has evolved so significantly in the preceding seven months that Ronaldo’s future in Man United is now uncertain. United are preparing for their third manager in less than a year, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag prepared to undertake a dramatic revamp this summer, following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and the appointment of interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
While Real Madrid would welcome him back this summer and offer him plenty of playing time next season, it’s uncertain if Ten Hag sees the veteran forward as important to United’s immediate future. When Ronaldo was fit, both Solskjaer and Rangnick seldom left him out. Ten Hag, on the other hand, is seeing a new United future based on tremendous energy and youth — and Ronaldo will not be assured to play every game. That will irritate the United legend, who can rightfully point to his goal total in a poor United side as proof he deserves to be the first name on the squad sheet.
The Portuguese international scored his 100th Premier League goal in United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal and then equalized in midweek to earn United a 1-1 draw with Chelsea. When Ronaldo returned to Manchester United after a 12-year absence, he anticipated a different season than the one that has transpired at Old Trafford. He expected United to cut the Manchester City and Liverpool gap and fight for trophies, but that hasn’t happened.
